CH - 1 " THE SOUND OF FEAR "

Rain poured relentlessly over New York City, drowning the streets in a cold, merciless rhythm. Thunder rumbled in the distance, echoing like a warning no one could escape. Hidden far from the city lights, an abandoned warehouse stood in silence—forgotten, decaying… and tonight, alive with something far darker.

Inside, the air was thick with rust and blood.

A man sat in the middle of the empty room, tied to a chair that creaked beneath his weight. His body was a canvas of bruises—deep purples and angry reds blooming across his skin. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, dripping slowly onto the concrete floor below. Each breath he took was uneven, fragile… like it might be his last.

The only sound, besides the rain hammering against the broken windows, was his shallow breathing.

Then—

Thud.

A heavy boot struck the ground somewhere in the darkness.

The man’s head snapped up, panic flooding his eyes.

Thud. Thud.

The sound echoed again, slow and deliberate. Each step carried a terrifying kind of control, like a predator that already knew its prey had nowhere left to run.

A shadow stretched across the floor before the figure even appeared.

And when he did—

The injured man’s entire body went rigid.

Fear didn’t just touch him. It consumed him.

“N-no…” his voice cracked, barely above a whisper. “Please… I—I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to—”

His words stumbled over each other as his breathing turned frantic. Tears mixed with the blood on his face as he shook violently, his eyes locked on the man walking toward him.

The man who had just entered didn’t rush.

He never needed to.

Dressed in black, untouched by the chaos around him, he moved with a calm that made everything worse. His presence alone was suffocating—silent, controlled, deadly. Rainwater dripped from his coat, but it didn’t make him look messy. It made him look… untouchable.

Like the storm itself answered to him.

The injured man whimpered. “Please… I’ll fix it… I swear… just give me one chance—”

No response.

Not a word.

The man stopped just a few steps away, his gaze cold and unreadable as he looked down at the broken figure in front of him. For a moment, the silence stretched so long it became unbearable.

Then, without urgency, he reached for a chair lying nearby.

The scrape of metal against concrete cut through the room like a blade.

He dragged it forward… slowly… deliberately… until it stood directly in front of the trembling man.

And then—

He sat.

Leaning back slightly, one leg crossing over the other, he rested his elbow on the armrest as if this was nothing more than a casual meeting. But his eyes… those eyes held something far more dangerous than anger.

They held certainty.

The kind that decided fates without hesitation.

The injured man broke completely.

“I’ll do anything!” he cried. “Money, information—anything you want! Just… please don’t kill me…”

A faint, almost invisible smile touched the corner of the man’s lips.

Not kind.

Not amused.

Cruel.

“You already did everything I wanted,” he said softly, his voice low and controlled—yet it carried enough weight to silence the storm itself.

The man froze.

Confusion flickered across his face, quickly replaced by horror as realization began to settle in.

The one sitting before him wasn’t here for answers.

He was here for an ending.

And in that moment—

The rain outside seemed to fall harder.

As if the world itself was trying to wash away what was about to happen next. The man’s lips trembled as realization sank deep into his bones.

This wasn’t negotiation.

This wasn’t survival.

This was judgment.

Rain lashed harder against the shattered windows, the wind howling through the warehouse like it was trying to escape what stood inside it.

ADRIAN VOSS

The name itself carried power—fear, influence, control. CEO of the Voss Empire. A man the world admired from a distance.

But the man sitting in front of him… wasn’t the one the world saw.

This was something else.

Something far worse.

“I—I know who you are…” the injured man choked out, his voice shaking violently. “Adrian Voss… the empire… the businesses… the deals—”

A pause.

A dangerous one.

Adrian tilted his head slightly, his expression unreadable.

“Then you also know,” Adrian said quietly, his voice smooth like silk hiding a blade, “that you’ve made a very poor decision.”

The man’s breath hitched. Panic clawed its way up his throat.

“I didn’t mean to cross you!” he cried. “It was business! Just business—I didn’t know it would reach you—”

Adrian leaned forward.

Just slightly.

But that small movement was enough to silence everything.

“Business?” he repeated softly.

The word sounded almost… insulting.

The injured man nodded frantically, tears spilling down his face. “I swear, I didn’t know those girls were under your protection! If I knew, I would’ve never—never touched them!”

Silence.

Heavy.

Deadly.

For the first time, something shifted in Adrian’s eyes.

Not anger.

Not rage.

Something colder.

Final.

“You didn’t know,” Adrian said, almost thoughtfully.

The man nodded desperately. “Yes! Yes, exactly—”

“That,” Adrian interrupted, his voice dropping lower, “is precisely why you’re going to die.”

The words didn’t come out loud.

They didn’t need to.

They landed like a verdict.

The man’s entire body went numb.

“No… no, please—listen, I can fix this!” he stammered. “I have contacts, money—information! Powerful people—bigger than you think—if you let me live, I can give you names!”

Adrian studied him for a long moment.

As if deciding whether he was worth even another second.

Then—

“Names,” Adrian said calmly, “won’t buy you time.”

A flicker of hope still clung to the man’s eyes.

But it was fading.

Fast.

“You don’t understand,” Adrian continued, leaning back again, his posture relaxed, composed… terrifyingly in control. “You mistake me for someone who deals in profit.”

A pause.

“I deal in consequences.”

The words echoed in the hollow space.

And this time—

The man believed them.

His breathing broke into uneven gasps, his head shaking violently. “Please… I have a family—”

Adrian’s expression didn’t change.

Not even slightly.

“So did they.”

That was it.

No shouting.

No dramatic outburst.

Just truth.

And it was far more brutal than anything else.

The man collapsed forward against the ropes, completely shattered. Whatever fight he had left was gone.

Destroyed.

Adrian stood up slowly, adjusting his sleeve as if concluding a routine task.

From the shadows behind him, another figure stepped forward—silent, waiting.

Adrian didn’t even look back.

“Clean it,” he said simply.

No hesitation.

No emotion.

Just an order.

And then he walked away.

Boots echoing once again across the empty warehouse floor… fading with each step until only the storm remained.

Hours later.

The rain had softened into a quiet drizzle, the city returning to its restless rhythm.

At the top floor of the Voss Empire building, lights still burned in a single office.

Adrian stood near the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking New York.

Untouchable.

Unreachable.

A king above a city that didn’t even know it belonged to him.

But tonight—

Something lingered in his mind.

Not the man.

Not the blood.

Not the past.

Something else.

A file lay open on his desk.

Thin.

Unremarkable.

Yet… important.

A photograph peeked from within.

A girl.

Alive.

Unaware.

And somehow—

Connected.

Adrian’s gaze darkened as he turned toward it.

For the first time that night…

His interest had been caught.

And when Adrian Voss became interested—

Lives didn’t stay ordinary for long.
