Nyra froze for only a second.
Then reality snapped back into place.
“I—I’m so sorry,” she said quickly, stepping back as she looked at the coffee stains spreading across the man’s shirt. “I didn’t see—”
“Clearly,” the man cut in, his voice low, controlled… and dangerous.
Nyra blinked.
Something about his tone irritated her instantly. Maybe it was the day she’d had. Maybe it was the way he looked at her—like she was nothing.
Her apology died halfway.
“Well,” she straightened slightly, her brows knitting together, “you weren’t exactly paying attention either. You were on your phone.”
The man’s eyes narrowed.
Around them, the air seemed to tighten.
Adrian Voss wasn’t used to being spoken to like that.
Ever.
“You bumped into me,” he said coldly, each word precise. “And now you’re trying to shift the blame?”
Nyra crossed her arms, her frustration finally spilling over. “I said sorry. What more do you want? A written apology? Or should I clean your shirt right here on the road?”
A faint, dangerous smile touched Adrian’s lips.
Interesting.
“Considering you’ve ruined a shirt worth more than—” his gaze flicked over her simple clothes, “—well, more than you can probably afford, yes. I’d expect something more than attitude.”
Nyra stared at him for a second.
Then let out a dry, humorless laugh.
“Oh wow. A rich guy with an ego problem. That’s new.”
Behind Adrian, one of his bodyguards visibly stiffened, clearly not used to anyone speaking like this to him.
Adrian, however, didn’t move.
His eyes stayed locked on hers.
“You have no idea who you’re talking to,” he said quietly.
Nyra tilted her head slightly, unimpressed. “And you have no idea how little I care.”
Silence.
Heavy. Thick. Almost unreal.
A few steps away, Felix Dimitriev—who had been leaning casually against the car—slowly straightened, his expression shifting from boredom… to pure amusement.
Oh, this is going to be fun.
Back in front of him, Nyra exhaled sharply, running a hand through her slightly messy hair.
“Look,” she muttered, clearly done, “I’ve had a terrible day. You’ve lost your coffee. We’re both miserable. Let’s just agree this was unfortunate and move on.”
Adrian raised a brow.
“Miserable?” he repeated.
Nyra gave him a flat look. “Yes. Some of us have actual problems, not just… coffee tragedies.”
Felix let out a small, choked laugh behind them, quickly covering it with a cough.
Adrian didn’t even glance back.
His attention remained fixed on her.
“You’re quite bold,” he said, almost thoughtfully now.
Nyra shrugged. “No. Just tired.”
For a moment, something unreadable flickered in his eyes.
Then it was gone.
“Watch where you’re going next time,” he said coolly.
Nyra rolled her eyes. “Same to you, Mr. Expensive Shirt.”
And just like that—
She turned.
And walked away.
No fear. No hesitation.
Just frustration in every step.
For a few seconds, no one spoke.
One of Adrian’s bodyguards looked like he’d just witnessed something impossible.
“Sir… should I—”
“No,” Adrian said, still watching Nyra’s retreating figure.
There was something strange in his expression now.
Not anger.
Something else.
Something unfamiliar.
Felix, however, had completely lost it.
The moment Nyra disappeared into the crowd, he burst out laughing.
“Adrian,” he said between breaths, “I— I can’t— Did that just happen?”
Adrian finally turned his head slightly, his gaze dark. “Control yourself.”
But Felix only laughed harder.
“Control myself? A random girl just argued with you, insulted your ego, called your problem a coffee tragedy… and then walked away like she owns the city.”
He wiped the corner of his eye, still grinning.
“I think I’m in love.”
Adrian’s expression hardened. “Be quiet.”
Felix smirked, stepping closer. “No, no… this is historic. Do you realize what just happened?”
Adrian didn’t respond.
“She shut you up,” Felix said, clearly enjoying every second of this. “You, Adrian Voss. The man people are afraid to even look at properly.”
A pause.
Then, with a teasing glint in his eyes—
“Should I be worried? Or impressed?”
Adrian’s jaw tightened slightly.
But instead of denying it…
His gaze drifted back to where Nyra had disappeared.
Felix’s smirk widened instantly.
“Oh,” he murmured, amused, “now this is getting interesting.”
And somewhere in the crowd—
Nyra kept walking, unaware that she had just stepped into a world far darker than her own.
