CH - 41 " ONE ROOM , ONE WAR "

The atmosphere shifted the exact moment they stepped inside the house, giving way to a sudden, enveloping warmth that felt like a sharp contrast to the biting cold they had left behind outdoors.

Elena immediately turned toward them with a soft, welcoming smile on her face, speaking gently as she said,

"You both look absolutely exhausted, so you should really go and rest for a while because dinner is going to take some time to prepare."

Nyra nodded her head in silent agreement, but before she could even utter a single word of appreciation, Adrian’s voice cut sharply through the quiet air.

"I have work to finish,"

he announced in a tone that was completely calm and utterly flat, adding,

"I’ll be spending the rest of the evening in the office."

And just like that, without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel to leave. Felix followed closely behind him with a casual shrug, tossing a quick, playful nod in Nyra’s direction before disappearing down the hallway, leaving the heavy wooden door to click shut behind them.

A thick, awkward silence instantly filled the grand space, leaving Nyra standing frozen in the middle of the foyer, completely unsure of what she was supposed to do next.

Victor noticed her discomfort right away, and so did Sebastian, who quickly clapped his hands together with a dramatic flourish to shatter the mounting tension.

"Well, since the moody groom has mysteriously vanished into thin air already,"

Sebastian teased with a wicked smirk, earning an immediate, warning look from Victor, "…the very least we can do is make our lovely new bride feel completely comfortable here,"

he finished with a mischievous grin. Nyra blinked in sheer surprise at his theatrical energy, but Victor stepped forward and spoke with genuine warmth,

"Come along, let’s show you where your room is so you can finally relax."

_

Dinner felt completely different from anything she had expected, turning out to be incredibly lively in the best possible way.

Even though Adrian never actually showed up to join them, the family's vibrant energy ensured that nobody made his absence feel like an empty void at the table.

Elena kept asking Nyra sweet, small questions about her career goals and her daily routine, while Alex sat across from them talking absolutely nonstop without taking a single breath.

"Big bro literally never brings anyone home with him," Alex revealed, leaning eagerly across the table with wide eyes,

"so you are quite literally the very first person to break his streak!"

Sebastian chimed in immediately with a playful glint in his eye, adding,

"And you will also possibly be the very last person he ever brings home, depending entirely on how many days you manage to survive living with him."

Nyra actually had to fight back a genuine smile at their banter, while Victor simply watched the entire exchange quietly from the head of the table with a calm, comforting presence.

For the first time in a very long while, Nyra didn’t feel the suffocating pressure to prove her worth to anyone;

she just existed in their space, and they accepted her exactly as she was.

The wonderful night eventually ended,

and then another full day passed by in total comfort, followed quickly by another.

Two whole days went by without a single sign of life from the master of the house, and Adrian did not show his face around the family home even once.

On the third evening, however,

the heavy front door suddenly swung open without any warning.

Nyra spun around instantly at the sound, and there he stood in the doorway—Adrian, looking as stoic as ever, acting exactly as if absolutely nothing out of the ordinary had changed while he was gone.

"Pack your essentials right now,"

he commanded bluntly, offering absolutely no greeting to his family and providing zero explanation for his sudden reappearance.

"We are leaving this place immediately."

A stunned silence fell over the room before Alex spoke up first, demanding,

"Are you serious right now? You want to leave this very second?"

Elena frowned slightly at her son's harsh demeanor, pleading softly, "But Adrian, you literally just stepped through the front door, so please at least stay here with us for tonight."

Sebastian leaned far back into his chair, a mocking smirk playing on his lips as he taunted, "Or are you just terrified that if you stay any longer, you might actually start enjoying a little bit of quality family time?"

Victor didn’t say a single word to intervene, choosing instead to just watch the drama unfold with calculating eyes, but Adrian refused to alter his stubborn decision for even a fraction of a second.

"I said we are leaving,"

he repeated with absolute finality, and knowing it was useless to fight him, Nyra chose not to argue as she simply gave him a resigned nod.

The long drive back into the city was entirely quiet, though they did eventually stop at a simple, unpretentious roadside diner along the highway to get some dinner.

They ate their meal in complete, unbroken silence, sharing absolutely no conversation and making zero eye contact as a palpable sense of emotional distance stretched between them.

As soon as they finished, the powerful sports car engine roared back to life, and they began the final leg of their journey.

When they finally arrived,

the penthouse loomed above them—tall, aggressively modern, and strikingly cold in its design.

They entered the sleek apartment, leaving Nyra standing frozen in the exact center of the vast living space while she carefully looked around at her new surroundings. Everything was immaculately clean, starkly minimalist, and completely devoid of any personal warmth.

Adrian walked straight past her as if she were nothing more than a ghost, carelessly picking up a fresh change of clothes before moving purposefully toward the master washroom.

"Wait just a second," Nyra’s voice rang out, successfully stopping him right in his tracks.

He turned his head slightly to look back at her, prompting her to ask the incredibly simple question,

"Where exactly is my room supposed to be?"

Adrian stared at her with a blank expression for a beat before stating flatly,

"This is your room."

Nyra frowned deeply at his confusing response, countering immediately,

"If this is supposed to be my room, then what on earth are you doing in here?"

Adrian’s rigid expression didn’t change in the slightest as he replied,

"We are going to be staying in ONE room TOGETHER."

A heavy silence descended upon the space as Nyra stared at him in utter disbelief.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me right now."

"I don't joke,"

he replied smoothly. Her brows pulled together in anger as she snapped,

"No, absolutely not. This is going to be my private room."

"No,"

Adrian corrected her with infuriating calmness,

"this is actually my room."

"But I thought you just fucking said—"

"I did."

"Then whose room is it?!"

"It’s OURS ,"

he stated, matching her fiery energy with cool amusement.

Nyra crossed her arms tightly over her chest, declaring,

"No way. It’s mine, you asshole."

Adrian took a slow, deliberate step closer to her, lowering his voice as he murmured,

"And I happen to own the entire building."

Nyra scoffed loudly at his arrogance, shooting back,

"Just because you own the property doesn’t mean you get to decide absolutely everything that happens inside it!"

"Actually, that is exactly what it means."

"That is absolutely not how real life works, you freak!"

"I think you'll find that is exactly how it works with me."

They stood there toe-to-toe, fiercely arguing back and forth without either of them showing the slightest willingness to back down from the fight.

They were so intensely focused on glaring at each other that neither of them noticed the subtle flicker of the electrical system right before the lights suddenly went out completely.

Total darkness engulfed the room.

Nyra instantly froze in place, her voice dropping to a tense whisper,

"...Did the entire power grid just shut down?"

Adrian didn’t answer her right away, letting the darkness stretch between them before he finally murmured,

"I believe it did."

There was a long pause before Nyra turned slightly toward the door, announcing,

"Fine, I’ll just go find myself another bedroom in the dark."

Adrian’s smooth voice cut through the shadows, dripping with a sudden, playful calmness. "Are you absolutely sure you want to risk that?"

She stopped walking immediately, demanding, "What exactly do you mean by that?"

"Well..." he drawled out slowly, clearly enjoying himself,

"the entire penthouse is pitch black right now, and I'm really not sure you're quite brave enough to wander these halls all alone... what if you accidentally run into something terrifying?"

Nyra narrowed her eyes blindly in his direction. "Run into something? Like what?"

Adrian tilted his head slightly, his voice laced with a teasing mockery.

"Ghosts, perhaps? Who knows what's lurking out there?"

A stunned silence followed his ridiculous claim before Nyra finally snapped,

"You are an absolute prick, fucker trucker bitch!"

Adrian didn’t say another word, but there was a distinct, unmistakable shift in his quiet tone that was purely teasing because he knew with absolute certainty that she absolutely loathed being left in the dark.

Nyra glared fiercely at the spot where she imagined his smug face to be, then turned around abruptly, walked straight to the king-sized bed, and dropped onto it with an exasperated sigh.

"Fine," she muttered defiantly into the mattress,

"I am not moving a single fucking inch from this spot tonight."

She paused for a moment to catch her breath before sitting up slightly, turning her head toward him as her tone became incredibly sharp and firm.

"But tomorrow morning, I am going to find myself a brand new room in this place, and if you try to block me, I will personally make sure I kick your ass out of this one."

It was a clear, direct challenge thrown right at his feet.

Adrian didn’t offer a verbal response, but he stood there just watching her silhouette in the dim light, his lips almost curving upward into a genuine smile. Almost.

"Feel free to try," he challenged calmly.

Nyra scoffed loudly into the darkness, "Oh, trust me, I absolutely fucking will."

Another silence followed their heated exchange, but this time around, the atmosphere wasn’t just filled with angry tension.

It had morphed into something entirely different—a quiet, thrilling battle of wits that remained completely unspoken between them.

Adrian stood perfectly still by the bed for a second longer, and then, a tiny, rare smile actually appeared on his face, though it was barely visible in the shadows and gone in a fraction of a second.

He turned on his heel and walked straight into the washroom, playfully leaving her all by herself in the dark,

right in the middle of his room—

their room.
