The silence didn’t last, because Sera wasn’t the kind of person who ever walked away quietly.
Two days passed in an agonizing lull.
There were no explosive scenes, no sharp confrontations, and absolutely no sign of her in the building.
Yet, for Nyra, that absence was infinitely worse than an outright attack. She didn't like the quiet, and she certainly didn't trust it.
Predators like Sera didn't just give up and move on; they retreated into the shadows, bided their time, and waited for the perfect psychological moment to strike.
By midday, the main office floor seemed completely normal again—perhaps too normal.
Nyra sat at her desk, methodically scrolling through a mountain of quarterly reports, but she couldn't shake the prickling sensation at the back of her neck telling her that something was profoundly off.
The illusion of normalcy shattered entirely when Felix walked past her cubicle.
He paused, his sharp eyes lingering on her for a fraction of a second, before he checked himself and continued briskly down the hall.
That brief hesitation alone was enough to set off alarm bells in Nyra's mind. Felix was a man of absolute calculation;
he never paused without a reason.Inside the glass-walled corner office, the atmosphere was rapidly suffocating. Adrian stood rigidly near his mahogany desk, a smartphone pressed tightly to his ear.
His expression was dark and completely controlled, but the rigid set of his shoulders betrayed that the ground had already shifted beneath them.“What do you mean it’s signed?”
Adrian asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous, freezing register. A heavy pause followed as the voice on the other end delivered the news. “No. That’s categorically impossible.”
Another silence stretched through the line. Adrian’s jaw tightened so hard the muscle leaped beneath his skin.
His fingers gripped the phone with white-knuckled intensity. “…send me the full documentation. Everything.”
He ended the call, slamming the phone face down onto the desk. Felix stepped into the room immediately, closing the door behind him. “What happened?”
Adrian didn’t look at his advisor right away. He stared out the glass window, his eyes scanning the bullpen before finally locking onto Felix.
“She moved.”Felix’s composed expression faltered, a rare flash of anxiety breaking through his professional facade. “…how bad is it?”
A suffocating pause hung between them. “She bought out the minority shares,”
Adrian said flatly, each word dripping with venom.Silence descended on the room like a physical weight.
Felix cursed vividly under his breath, rubbing a hand over his face.“That’s not all,” Adrian added, his voice dropping lower, laced with an undercurrent of raw fury.
“With that block of shares, she successfully bypassed the standard vetting process.
She’s now a voting member of the board.”That single play changed absolutely everything.
The fragile corporate armor Adrian had built around the firm had just been breached from within.Outside the glass walls, Nyra remained completely in the dark, entirely unaware of the financial execution that had just taken place.
She hadn't seen the blow coming, but the sudden drop in atmospheric pressure within the office was undeniable.
She felt the shift down to her bones. The announcement arrived with terrifying, clinical suddenness.
A company-wide email flashed across every desktop monitor simultaneously, accompanied by an urgent page for an emergency meeting.
All employees were ordered to the main conference room immediately.
Minutes later, the massive room was filled to capacity. The air hummed with nervous whispers, confusion, and a dark wave of curiosity. Nyra stood near the back, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she tried to piece together the sudden urgency. The heavy double doors swung open, cutting the chatter instantly.
Adrian walked in first, his face a mask of unreadable stone, followed closely by Felix.
And then came the source of the storm.
Sera.
She walked in right beside Adrian—not a step behind him, not lingering in the periphery, but directly at his flank.
She carries herself with an intolerable grace, moving as though she already owned the very air they breathed.
The conference room went entirely, utterly silent.
Nyra’s eyes locked onto the pair, her gaze instantly tracking the lack of physical distance between Adrian and the woman beside him.
A sudden, sharp constriction tightened across Nyra's chest, making it hard to draw breath.
Yet, her training kicked in.
Her face remained a perfect, placid mask of calm—still, cold, and utterly controlled.
She refused to let a single crack show.
Adrian stopped at the head of the conference table. His piercing eyes swept over the crowd, intentionally avoiding Nyra's position to keep from drawing focus. “Starting today,” Adrian announced, his powerful voice echoing off the glass and steel walls, “there will be a major addition to the board of directors.”
A calculated pause hung in the air.
“Miss Sera will be taking over the newly consolidated oversight seat.”
A wave of frantic whispers broke out instantly, loud and completely uncontrolled.
The staff traded stunned looks, fully aware of the toxic history and immense power Sera’s family held.
Nyra didn’t flinch.
She didn’t join the murmuring crowd. But inside, her stomach sank into a cold, bottomless abyss.Sera stepped forward smoothly, exuding an effortless, absolute confidence.
Her predatory eyes swept lazily across the sea of faces, deliberately cataloging the reactions, until they finally stopped on Nyra. It lasted for only a second—a fleeting, private moment—but it was more than enough.
A small, razor-sharp smile formed on Sera’s lips. It was a look of pure, unadulterated victory. The rest of the meeting passed in a blur of corporate details, logistical formalities, and empty words that didn’t truly matter.
The finer points of the restructuring meant nothing compared to the one glaring, catastrophic reality: Sera wasn’t a temporary visitor anymore.
She was a permanent fixture, and she had just acquired the power to dictate their futures.
Once dismissed, the employees gathered in small, frantic clusters, speaking in hushed, speculative tones.
Nyra slipped away from the crowd quietly, refusing to participate in the office gossip. She kept her head high, moving purposefully toward the exit. But she didn’t get far.“Leaving already?”
That familiar, dripping voice cut through the corridor.
Nyra stopped dead in her tracks.
She took a slow, measured breath to ground herself before turning around. Sera stood just a few feet behind her, intentionally invading her personal space.“You move fast,”
Nyra said, her voice smooth and devoid of any fear.Sera’s smile widened, bright and entirely dangerous.
“I told you, darling. I don’t wait around for things to happen. I make them happen.”
A heavy silence settled between them in the hallway. Nyra held her gaze, her eyes steady. “And what exactly are you trying to prove with this little stunt?”
Sera tilted her head slightly, studying Nyra like an interesting specimen. “Nothing at all,” she said softly, her voice dropping to a sweet, venomous purr.
“I’m simply taking back what was always mine to begin with.”The words were a deliberate, calculated strike at Nyra's positioning with Adrian.
Nyra's fingers curled into tight fists at her sides, the fabric of her skirt bunching in her grip, but she kept her voice perfectly level.
“Then you are severely mistaken.”Sera took a final step closer, close enough that Nyra could smell her expensive, suffocating perfume.
“Am I?” she whispered, her eyes flashing with a cold, malicious light.Nyra didn’t step back an inch. She didn’t look away, anchoring herself to the floor.
“Yes.”The silence stretched, taut and vibrating with mutual hatred. Then, Sera let out a soft, mocking laugh and adjusted the lapel of her tailored blazer.
“We’ll see about that.”Without another word, Sera turned on her heel and walked away, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.
She left Nyra standing entirely alone in the corridor.
Externally, Nyra remained completely composed, her posture flawless. But beneath the surface, her chest felt heavier than it ever had before.
This was no longer just workplace tension or a personal grudge. The lines had been drawn, the pieces had been moved, and the battlefield was set.
This was an all-out war—
and Sera had just executed the first devastating strike.
